It's true, Hamas needs to be defeated. But even defeat is not enough. If any of them are left they will reconstitute, rebuild and rearm and eventually attack again. They must be totally eliminated to fully ensure peace and quiet. I'm not sure that can actually be done, and as world opinions go right now, the world will not all allow Hamas to be eliminated. The truth is that the world hates Israel to the point that Hamas serves as their proxy persecutor. Forget what they say about Israel having the right to defend itself--they won't give you the right to succeed in your defense, and they sure won't give you permission to prevail in your defense. In their heart they want Hamas to win--they will sternly protect Hamas and fight Israel if it looks like you may actually put Hamas out of business. Netanyahu was right. Israel has taken it as far as they can safely go at this juncture of world opinion status. Yes, Hamas will rearm and at some point you will have to do it all again, but don't lose hope, it may turn out that by then world conditions may be such that the opening will exist to do the job that needs to be done.
